Dr. Richard Béliveau, Université du Québec
à Montréal
It is estimated that one third of cancer cases
can be attributed to diet, which demonstrates the importance
of healthy eating to help reduce the incidence and progression
of cancer. Numerous fundamental, clinical and epidemiological
studies have shown that increased consumption of fruits
and vegetables is a key factor in reducing the risk of cancer.
Professor Richard Béliveau, head of the Laboratory
of Molecular Medicine and researcher at the hemato-oncology
unit of Sainte-Justine Hospital, is interested in the mechanisms
by which nutrient-based compounds exert antitumor effects.
His work is aimed at establishing a global profile of anticancer
activity in fruits and vegetables in order to set up a program
unique in the world for the prevention and treatment of
cancer.
Dr Richard Béliveau is professor of
biochemistry at the Université du Québec à
Montréal, professor of surgery and of physiology
at the medicine faculty of Université de Montréal
and holder of the Chaire en Prévention et Traitement
du Cancer. He is researcher in the Neurosurgery Department
of Notre-Dame Hospital and holder of the Chaire de Neurochirurgie
Claude-Bertrand. He is also a member of the Group for Experimental
Therapy of Cancer of the Jewish General Hospital. He is
author of more than 210 papers in medical journals. His
research interests are: cancer prevention and treatment
by foods, new approaches for cancer chemotherapy, brain
tumor treatments, cancer coagulopathies and cancer metastasis
inhibition. He is author of the best-seller Foods that fight
cancer.
